Back You must decide how much you wish to bet. This is known as your stake. The first figure in the odds tells you how much you will win in proportion to your stake, represented by the second figure. For example if Manchester United is 3 to 1 to win the European Cup you can expect to win three times your stake. Therefore if your stake is £10 you will win £30. Do not forget that if you place a winning bet you will also have your stake returned. Therefore if you have £10 at 3 to 1 on Manchester United winning the tournament and they duly oblige, you will have £40 credited to your account (£30 won + £10 stake). In some circumstances we will predict an outcome is more likely to happen than not and will offer you "odds on", in which case you will win less than your stake. For example Manchester United might be 8 to 11 (or 11-8 odds on) to beat Juventus. For a stake of £11 you would win £8 and, of course, have your £11 stake returned. In a situation where an outcome is deemed to be a 50% chance, they will
offer odds of 1 to 1. This is known as even money or evens. A multiple bet is a bet involving more than one selection. As with an odds bet, a multiple wager can be either win or each-way. Multiple bets are known by many different names, depending on the number of selections, but the simplest is known as a double. A double comprises two selections, both of which must win for the bet to be successful. The winnings from one selection are carried forward onto the other. To expand on our example above, if you place a £10 win double on Manchester United to win the European Cup at 3 to 1 and Arsenal to win the Premiership at 4 to 1, the total amount staked is £10. Should both parts of the bets oblige the total winnings would be £190. (£40 returns from United going on Arsenal at 4 to 1 = £200, minus the £10 stake). An each-way double works in the same way but it is effectively two separate bets - both need to win for the win part to be successful, both need to be placed for the place section to come to fruition. The process works in exactly the same way for a treble (three selections)
and any other multiples. WHAT IS A POOL BET? Back A pool bet is when your stake is entered into a central pool, which will then be divided up between the winning bets in proportion to the amount of money staked. There are a number of different pool bets, which are explained in the Bet
