Premiership: Gunners lengthen
Arsenal have drifted to 5/1 with VC Bet for this year's Premiership
following Sunday's 1-0 loss to rivals Chelsea.
Arsene Wenger's side were undone by a Didier Drogba goal that maintained
the defending champions' 100 per cent start to the new campaign.
Jose Mourinho's Chelsea are now trading at 4/7 to make it back-to-back
titles.
"The Drogba goal was a fluke but when it comes to grinding
out one nil wins it appears that Chelsea have no equal," said
VC Bet's Nick Blezard.
"Arsenal never really looked like scoring and that says an
awful lot about the quality of Chelsea's rearguard."
Manchester United made it two wins from two as a Ruud Van Nistelrooy
strike was enough to see off Aston Villa at Old Trafford.
Sir Alex Ferguson's team are VC Bet's second favourites at 11/4
to land this season's title.
"United look far more assured with Van de Sar in goal, which
is a huge plus for them after some dodgy spells with Roy Carroll
and Tim Howard," added Blezard.

: Aussies retain favourites tag
Australia are now 11/10 to win this summer's pulsating Ashes series
after their dramatic draw with England in the third Test at Old Trafford.
Skipper Ricky Ponting was the mainstay of the Australian batting
as he held fast for six hours before falling for 154.
Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee then guided the tourists home through
a final 25 nerve-wracking deliveries to leave the series superbly
poised at 1-1.
"We might just have watched the most exciting Test match ever,
which is saying something after England's incredible win at Edgbaston,"
said VC Bet's Nick Blezard.
"Both teams now head to Trent Bridge for the fourth Test of
five with everything to play for."
Michael Vaughan's England are now 9/4 to win the series with two
Tests remaining.
"England were 11/4 to win the series before the Old Trafford
draw so it is quite clear that the bookies' confidence in them is
growing.
"They have had the Aussies on the rack twice in a row now
and are more than capable of winnning the Ashes," added Blezard.

Premiership - Chelsea Up and Away
VC Bet are of the opinion that Chelsea could get a flying start in
the Premiership this month and leave their two major rivals Arsenal
and Manchester United left in the blocks as they attempt to follow
up last season’s easy victory in their title defence.
The clash between Manchester United and Arsenal originally scheduled
for August has been re-arranged for April because of United’s
Champions League commitments and Chelsea can benefit from playing
an extra game in the first month of the season and put their fiercest
competitors under immediate pressure.
One high roller has anticipated a good start for the champions
and has bet a £22,000 to £8,000 on in their opening
game against newly promoted Wigan.
“Chelsea hit the ground running in their 2-1 win over Arsenal
in the Community Shield at the Millennium Stadium and with away
matches against Wigan and Spurs and home matches against Arsenal
and WBA they could have a maximum total of twelve points by the
end of August” commented VC Bet’s Neal Wilkins who continued
“The one thing Arsenal and Manchester United did not need
was to give the title holders a start but this could well occur
because of the fixture list. Presently available at 8/13 with VC
Bet they could easily be a 1/2 chance by the end of the month”.
VC Bet Premiership Odds
8/13 Chelsea
7/2 Arsenal
7/2 Manchester United
16/1 Liverpool

Premiership - Champions backed to be relegated
VC Bet are facing a four million pound pay-out if the unthinkable
occurs and the Premiership Champions Chelsea are relegated at the
end of the forthcoming season.
Chelsea were on offer at 20,000-1 in the VC Bet “doom”
market but that price has been slashed to 2,500-1 following a series
of bets on Jose Mourinho’s team. VC Bet copped a million pound
last season when Victor Chandler accepted the side wager offered
by Mancunian mad Fred Done that Manchester United would finish above
Chelsea.
Victor Chandler commented; “We got the value and the money
last season when Chelsea romped away with the title and we will
obviously be hoping that there is no dramatic reversal trend in
the new season”.
Just to further illustrate the pessimism of some supporters VC
Bet face a million pound pay-out if Manchester United take the drop.

Ashes: Lee latest injury worry
VC Bet’s cricket department have cut England from 9/4 to 2/1
following the shock news that Australian paceman Brett Lee is a major
doubt for the third Test.
Lee was admitted to hospital this week with a suspected knee infection
and may join fellow pace bowler Glenn McGrath on the Aussie treatment
table for the crucial Old Trafford game.
”Even if Lee does start on Thursday you have to question
whether he will be 100 per cent fit and with the absence of McGrath
it provides skipper Ricky Ponting with a real headache,” said
VC Bet’s Neal Wilkins.
"On the back of England's thrilling victory last Sunday all
the interest has been for the home side.
"That victory has resurrected the summer's series betting."
The tourists have been eased from even money to 6/5 and the draw
has hardened from 5/2 to 9/4.
This latest setback for Australia has seen a shift in the series
betting with Ponting’s men now available at 4/6 from 8/13
while England have shortened from 11/4 to 9/4.
A drawn series is on offer at 9/2 with VC Bet.
Premiership: Chelsea slashed for title
VC Bet have cut Jose Mourinho's Chelsea from 8/11 to 8/13 following
their authoratitive victory against Arsenal in Sunday's Community
Shield.
"Chelsea's defence showed yet again why they will have such
a say in the destiny of the Premiership title this season,"
said VC Bet's Neal Wilkins.
Manchester United (100/30) and Arsenal (3/1) have both been eased
to 7/2 and Liverpool to 16/1 (14/1).
Chelsea take on Wigan at the JJB Stadium on Sunday, Arsenal entertain
Newcastle and Manchester United travel to Everton for a Saturday
lunchtime kick-off.
Opening day of Premiership betting:
Arsenal 4/11 v Newcastle United 13/2, draw 3/1
Everton 11/4 v Manchester United 5/6, draw 9/4

Cricket: England strike back
England have roared back into contention for this summer's Ashes after
their dramatic two run win against Australia at Edgbaston.
Michael Vaughan's men are now trading at 11/4 to win the series
with VC Bet after drifting out to as high as 11/1 following their
opening Test defeat at Lords.
But the thrilling Birmingham win levels the series at 1-1 to give
the hosts real hope ahead of the third Test that gets underway at
Old Trafford on Thursday.
"It's rejuvenated the series because at 2-0 down there would
have been no way back for England," said VC Bet's Nick Blezard.
Australia are again expected to be without Glenn McGrath in Manchester
after their key bowler's bizarre warm-up injury before the Edgbaston
match has put his summer in jeopardy.
"That was a cruel twist of fate for the Aussies and it remains
to be seen whether England can take advantage of his absence,"
he added.
England have won the Ashes on just four occasions after losing
the opening Test - in 1888, 1912, 1955 and 1981.
To win the third Test

Draw 5/2

SPL: Bhoys on the drift
Gordon Strachan's Celtic are odds against to win this year's Scottish
Premier League on the eve of the new season.
Strachan's side were humiliated 5-0 away against minnows Artmedia
of Bratislava in Champions League qualifying on Wednesday and will
head into their opening game at Motherwell on Saturday with confidence
at rock bottom.
"We were 5/6 about both Celtic and Rangers a week ago but
there's been a lot of shrewd money for Alex McLeish's team in recent
days," confirmed VC Bet's football trader Nick Blezard.
That flood of recent money has seen Rangers shorten to 4/6 with
the Bhoys drifting to 11/10. Hibernian are the Scottish elite's
third favourites at 200/1.
"There has to be something seriously wrong for a team to lose
5-0 against distinctly average opposition and it will be interesting
to see if they can pick themselves up for the weekend.
"If they don't Rangers' current 4/6 odds will look massive."
Rangers 4/6
Celtic 11/10
Hibernian 200/1
Aberdeen 250/1
Hearts 300/1

Golf: Scott worth opposing – say VC Bet
VC Bet have earmarked tournament jolly Adam Scott as their satchel
filler for this week’s Scandinavian Open at Kungsangen.
The world class Aussie has a fine record in Sweden but golf compiler
Glen Hyslop has chalked Scott up at an industry top 11/2 in a bid
to pull in punter support.
”There has been massive interest in Scott with us this week
and that suits me just fine,” said Hyslop.
”He’s got a cracking record at this event’s other
venue, Barseback, but that counts for little here. Scott finished
well at Kungsangen in 2002 but this event isn’t the kindest
for favourites winning,” he added.
”Graeme McDowell was a 100/1 skinner in 2002 and I’m
hoping for more of the same.”
While VC Bet opened at 11/2 Scott is quoted as low as 3/1 with
one layer.
The solid form of some of the home grown players is another reason
Hyslop wants to oppose the 25-year-old, who finished 34th at the
Open Championship.
”There’s more than a few players in this field I’d
fancy to give Scott some serious competition.
”Peter Hedblom and Peter Hanson are two players I will be
looking to stay on the right side of this week and you’d also
have to fancy a confident Niclas Fasth to come out all guns blazing.”
Hyslop added that Jesper Parnevik would be his chief lay of all
the Swedes teeing it up this week.
”Parnevik has the best record on this track but he isn’t
playing well at the moment so I am a top price of 33/1.”
Cricket: Aussies slashed for Ashes
Australia are now just 1/9 to win the Ashes after the tourists went
one up at Lords in comprehensive style at the weekend.
Ricky Ponting's side were 4/9 for series joy heading into the Lords
opener but that price is now a thing of the past as the Aussies
looked superior in every department to their opponents to eventually
crush England by 239 runs.
"We were 20/1 that the Aussies would whitewash England 5-0
before the series and that's now been slashed to 8/1 after that
emphatic victory," said VC Bet's Nick Gray.
"If Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath continue their form with
the ball it's hard to see England getting themselves into a position
where they can realistically challenge the tourists.
"Only Kevin Pietersen emerged with any credit from the home
side but he needs at least six or seven team mates to help him out
next time."
Michael Vaughan's side are now 11/1 for the Ashes after starting
out at 11/4.

Champions League: Reds off to Lithuania
Liverpool are still trading at 25/1 with VC Bet for Champions League
glory after seeing off Welsh minnows TNS 6-0 on aggregate.
The defending champions must now take on Lithuanian side FC Kaunas
in the second qualifying round after the Eastern Europeans thrashed
Pharoese title-holders HB Tórshavn 8-2.
The first legs of the second qualifying round take place on Tuesday
July 26 and Wednesday July 27.
”It should be another straightforward win for Liverpool against
the Lithuanians but with the Premiership approaching the last thing
the club needs is a long haul to Eastern Europe,” said VC
Bet’s football trader Nick Blezard.
Reds boss Rafael Benitez has just boosted his squad with the £7
million signing of 6’7” England international Peter
Crouch from Southampton.
”Crouch’s height and hold up play will be a massive
benefit to Liverpool when they play away from home this season.
”Too many times they gave the ball away too quickly away
from home last year,” added Blezard.
Chelsea are VC Bet’s 11/2 Champions League favourites with
7/1 Barcelona, 8/1 Real Madrid and AC Milan and 9/1 Juventus also
fancied at the business end of the firm’s outright list.
