THE POWER OF "PRICEWISE" WITH VC BET
The huge following enjoyed by Tom Segal's Pricewise column was further illustrated
by the flood of money for two of his Grand National ante-post selections
with VC Bet. Following the unveiling of the weights Pricewise
recommended Silver Birch who was smashed into from 16-1 into 12-1 and
Numbersixvalverde who was backed from 25-1 into 16-1 with the Gibraltar-based
firm.
Neal Wilkins from VC Bet commented "The phones never stopped ringing
from opening time this morning and both horses were six-figure losers
in a matter of minutes. Tom went for Papillon in 2000 and Monty's Pass
in 2003 when they were available at 40-1 and 50-1 respectively with VCBet
and they rewarded their backers starting at 10-1 and 16-1. Let's hope
history does not repeat itself! We have also seen good support for Haut
de Gamme from 50-1 into 40-1 and I understand trainer Ferdy Murhpy is
quite bullish about his chance."

COMMERCIAL FLIES HIS WAY INTO CHELTENHAM MARKET
Martin Pipe's Commercial Flyer made a highly impressive debut over fences
at Taunton and was slashed from 20-1 to 10-1 by VC Bet for the Royal &
SunAlliance Chase at Cheltenham next month.
VC Bet's Neal Wilkins commented "We fielded a large number of enquiries
about Commercial Flyer this morning laying 33-1 down to 20-1 to people
who are not known for throwing their money away in the ante-post market.
Clearly they were playing with marked cards over Commercial Flyer's jumping
prowess and he is now a 10-1 chance from 20-1."

BRITISH TEAMS TO QUALIFY WITH VC BET
VC Bet have issued prices on the chances of the British sides qualifying
for the quarter final stage of the UEFA Champions League and consider Liverpool
have the best chance of progressing making them 1/3 against their opponents
Benfica who are on offer at 9/4. Chelsea are rated even money
against 8/11 Barcelona while Arsenal and Real Madrid are both prices up
at 5/6 to qualify for the last eight. Glasgow Rangers look to have the
toughest task and are available at 2/1 against Villareal who are on offer
at 4/11.
VC Bet's Neal Wilkins commented "You would have to say that Rangers
have the toughest task of all particularly after their massive domestic
setback at the week-end and it will be extremely hard for Arsenal with
their present lack of confidence coinciding with injuries to so many players."

SCOLARI GAMBLED ON FOR NEWCASTLE JOB
Luiz Felipe Scolari, the coach who masterminded England's exit from the
last two tournaments they have played, has proved an inspired gamble for
the vacant Newcastle manager job with VC Bet. Since Graeme Souness
was sacked by Newcastle on Thursday, February 2, Scolari has emerged as
favourite with VC Bet for the manager’s position at St James’
Park. Available at 66-1 with the Gibraltar based firm Scolari’s
price plummeted to 11-4 following a series of bets.
VC Bet’s Neal Wilkins commented “We started laying 66-1 on
the internet overnight and eventually ended up going 7-2 this morning
when the news of Shearer’s and Roeder’s defections were made
public. We are currently going 11-4 and have in fact laid that price.
Those who availed themselves of the big prices are often extremely shrewd
in the football management market!”

feel that they would like to play safe with a domestic appointment."

DEMPSEY & HOO LA BALLOO ATTRACT MONEY
Mark Pitman’s Dempsey has been backed from 5-1 into 4-1 clear favourite
for the Victor Chandler Chase at Sandown Park on Saturday and Paul Nicholls
Hoo La Baloo was slashed from 10-1 into 6-1 following significant support.
VC Bet’s Neal Wilkins commented “Paul Nicholls declared four
runners at the 5-day entry stage but has since made it clear that he will
only have one runner in Hoo La Baloo. As a five-year-old he receives some
attractive allowances and we have laid the horse to people who are not

Following Joey Barton’s well documented transfer request and subsequent
refusal by Manchester City on the deadline of the January shop window VC
Bet have issued a market on which club he will be playing for at the start
of the 2006/2007 season. VC Bet’s Rob Walker commented
“Clearly Joey Barton valued himself more highly than City were prepared

TELEVISED FOOTBALL FEBRUARY 4-5
This week-end’s football action starts with Sky Sports 1’s
coverage of the Saturday’s Scottish Cup fourth-round clash between
Rangers and Hibernian at Ibrox (12.15 kick off). Peter Lovenkrands has
played some of the finest football of his career in recent months and
the Danish striker will be hoping it continues against Hibs who are looking
to record their third straight victory over the hosts.
If there is a RED CARD in this match VC Bet will DOUBLE WINNINGS on all
First Goal-score and Correct Score bets.
Premiership Plus cameras will be showing the Manchester United v Fulham
clash from Old Trafford (5.15 kick off). United (2/9) need to win if they
are to keep up their challenge for the runners-up spot and man in form
Louis Saha will be looking to put one over his old team. Fulham (11/1)
are still on a high after that last minute winner against Spurs at The
Cottage on Tuesday night and United will need to recover from their 4-3
defeat at Blackburn on Wednesday. VC Bet price the draw at 9/2.
On Sunday SkySports 1 will show the Premiership battle between Tottenham
Hotspur (3/4) and Charlton (4/1) from White Hart Lane. Kick off is at
1.30. Spurs, still smarting from their last minute defeat against Fulham
in last Tuesday’s local derby welcome the visit from another one
of their London rivals. Martin Jol’s men have turned the Lane into
a proverbial fortress this season losing only one game in the league,
and that was against Chelsea, so the home fans will be confident of another
three points against the Addicks. VC Bet offer the draw at 4/1
At 4.00 it is one of the games of the season when champions elect Chelsea
(3/4) entertain Liverpool (4/1) at the Bridge (SkySports 1). This is the
fourth encounter between these two sides so far this season, and it's
Chelsea who hold the edge. The Blues' 4-1 victory at Anfield back in October
condemned the Reds to their worst start in 13 seasons, but they have since
turned the corner in impressive fashion, and are highly fancied to inflict
a rare defeat on Mourinho's men. The draw is available at 4/1 with VC
Bet.

There were twenty two entries at the belated 5-day stage for the re-opened

the efforts to re-schedule the race will be rewarded with a great race
at Sandown Park on Saturday.”

SIX NATIONS STARTS THIS WEEK-END
Welsh glamour boy Gavin Henson has already written off his country’s
chances of winning another Grand Slam this season and he will miss the opening
two games through suspension but is free to play in their game against Ireland.
Wales are rated a 6-1 chance with VC Bet to win the Six Nations and they
have installed France as their 4/5 favourites.
VC Bet’s Neal Wilkins commented “It will be far tougher for
Wales this season despite playing France at home as they will not have
the surprise element over their opponents and everyone will be looking
to take their crown.”

Manchester United have to travel to Molineaux to face championship side
Wolves if they overcome 10.000-1 shots Boston in their replay next week
while FA Cup holders Arsenal face a difficult away game against Bolton
at the Reebok Stadium.
Liverpool who performed their “Houdini”act when beating Luton
in round three are drawn away to Portsmouth.
VC Bet’s Neal Wilkins commented “It is a very intriguing
draw and we will almost certainly lose some big names after the fourth
round matches have been completed. Arsenal, in particular, will not be
relishing a trip to Bolton where they have a very poor record in recent
seasons and will have to show a greater determination that they have in

VC Bet’s Neal Wilkins commented “A final between Arsenal

Grand National: Ford geared for success?
Bookies VC Bet have released a raft of specials surrounding female jockey Carrie
Ford’s ride on Forest Gunner in the forthcoming John Smith’s
Grand National.
Ford has been written off as an Aintree no-hoper by trainer Ginger McCain
in the lead up to the world’s most famous steeplechase.
McCain is quoted as saying: “Horses do not win Grand Nationals ridden
by women – that’s a fact.”
Ford is rated a 16/1 chance to win the race with Forest Gunner. The wife
of trainer, Richard Ford, is 8/11 to complete the course and even money
not to complete the course.
”You have to wonder if Ginger’s comment was just a little
tongue-in-cheek,” said VC Bet’s Neal Wilkins.
”Forest Gunner is a front runner so may not meet much trouble in
running and you have to remember the horse won impressively over National
fences in last year’s Topham Trophy.
”It’s a race widely associated with romance and it will be
a sensational story if she does it.
”In my opinion 16/1 represents cracking each-way value.”
Other Carrie Ford specials:
To jump the first 10 fences 1/3
To jump the first twenty fences 4/7
To jump all 30 fences 8/11

Uefa Champions League: Improving Real chopped for Euro glory
VC Bet have cut Real Madrid from 12s to 9/1 for the 2004/5 Champions League
after lumpy support this week.
The firm’s football traders were alerted when a high rolling punter
staked £2,500 each-way on Los Madrilenos at 12/1 on Wednesday.
Real, currently four points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona, take on
Juventus in Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League knockout phase.
”Juventus are bang out of form with recent defeats to Sampdoria
and Palermo whereas Real are finally starting to punch their weight,” said
VC Bet’s Nick Blezard.
”They’ve won their last six on the bounce and could yet haul
themselves right back into things under new coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo.
”Under Luxemburgo they look a much more organised and tactically
proficient side than they ever did under his recent predecessors.”
Chelsea are VC Bet’s 5/1 tournament jollies with Barcelona and AC
Milan rated 7/1 second favourites.

Golf: Cool Luke a big danger at Torrey
VC Bet say they will be doing their level best to swerve Luke Donald at this
week’s Buick Invitational.
The Ryder Cupper is currently trading at an industry-low 20/1 to go one
better in an event that saw him lose a play-off to John Daly last year.
”He’s a better player 12 months on and that surely makes him
a golfer to fear here,” said odds compiler Richard Friend.
”He tuned up nicely last week with a 13th at the Sony Open and his
record at Torrey Pines is fantastic.”
27-year-old Donald finished 7th here in 2003 and 18th in 2002.
Friend said that his golf team have taken a bold stance with regards to
market leaders Tiger Woods 4/1, Ernie Els 7/1 and Phil Mickelson 12/1.
”We’ve gone the biggest price in the bookmaking village about
those three and are looking to get them in the satchel this week,” Friend
added.
The golf judge singled out 200/1 Brandt Jobe as a player capable of justifying
each-way support.
”Jobe generally plays tough course well and knows his way around
here.”
39-year-old Jobe finished 10th at Torrey Pines last year and 13th in 2001.
Premiership: Chelsea tighten grip
Chelsea are now just 1/7 for the Premiership title after Jose Mourinho's side
again tightened their grasp on English football's top flight.
Saturday's 2-0 victory over Spurs at White Hart Lane saw the west Londoners
stretch their lead on second place to 10 points after rivals Arsenal were
beaten 1-0 at Bolton.
"Arsenal have again failed to deliver the goods and it is becoming
increasingly unlikely that they are going to apply any of the necessary
pressure on Chelsea now," said VC Bet's football man Nick Blezard.
"Ten points is a huge lead for side as resilient, powerful and confident
as Chelsea."
Arsenal are now out to 13/2 for the title with third placed United 8/1
after their crucial 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield.
Liverpool keeper Jerzy Dudek was at fault as he let a 25-yard Wayne Rooney
strike slide past him into the net.
Sir Alex Ferguson's side are 11 points behind the league leaders with
15 matches left to play.
Blezard looked ahead to United's Old Trafford Carling Cup clash with Chelsea
on January 26 as a decent opportunity to score some much needed psychological
points.
"If United can win that game it will put a new perspective on the
Premiership season.
"All of a sudden doubts might start creeping into the Chelsea players'
minds.," he said.

Premiership: Blues romp seven clear
Chelsea are now 1/5 for Premiership glory with VC Bet after Jose Mourinho’s
side extended their lead at the top of the Premiership to seven points on Tuesday
evening.
A Didier Drogba brace earned the Londoners a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough that
saw them move a gaping seven points ahead of second placed Arsenal.
The Gunners have slipped to 9/2 in the title betting after Arsene Wenger’s
side were held 1-1 at Highbury by Manchester City.
Third placed Manchester United are now out to 9/1 after Sir Alex Ferguson’s
men drew 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.
”It’s really starting to look ominous for Arsenal and United,” said
VC Bet’s Nick Blezard. “For them both to drop points at home at
such a crucial stage of the season is a hammer blow to their title hopes.
”And it could have been worse for United in the match officials has
spotted the ball crossing into United’s net after keeper Roy Carroll’s
clanger.”
